A simple mono-chromatic palette and eye-catching shoes. This week, both my friends Susie and Scott have shown what an effective choice this can be – chic, clean and lean.

I came across Irene at a showing of the Juliette Binoche and Akram Kahn piece ‘In-I’ at the Sydney Opera House. I was immediately struck by the wonderful gradation of red, black and white in her hair, the boldness of her black dress, her fantastic orange and gold wrap, and orange sandals. I’m only sorry my photography skills are not yet up to best portraying all these details, but she cut a very striking figure. With the set of the ‘In-I’ performance designed by Anish Kapoor we were in for a feast of colour. Binoche wore a bright orange dress, Kahn wore blue. Against a backdrop saturated by intense lighting which moved from deep red through orange to blue, causing the dancers’ shadows to also appear blue, there was a beautiful and affective use of contrasts to heighten the movement and drama

Kass is on my Interior Design course and has a fabulous way with colour, pattern and texture. This simple two-tone palette of turquoise and bright pink contrasts so richly with her hair and has been given such depth by the different patterns, details and textures of the clothes, belt, bag and jewellery she has chosen. Thanks Kass, I think we’ll be seeing a lot of you here!

Ben has a strong sense of style that is arresting in passing. He was rocking the black and white with a little bit of green the morning we met, long auburn hair standing out against his slashed tee shirt. And he had neatly undone the side seam of his black jeans to show a peep of his red and green tattoo below. Good luck with everything Ben
