Using 3 categories to define colour, we show you exactly where your skin-tone fits into the colour spectrum and how to use this knowledge to maximise the appearance of your skin, hair, eyes, body-shape, clothes, lingerie, glasses, accessories, living spaces and more. You will have the knowledge to use colour with confidence and success, making the right choices every time, saving yourself money and freeing you to enjoy dressing, shopping and designing your world.
In a nutshell, the pigmentation in our skin results in either a warm, cool or neutral skin-tone, which fits into a particular area of the colour spectrum. We establish your skin-tone using the Sci/Art® Twelve-ToneTM Colour SystemTM, and then go further to discover more about that tone. To define colour within the spectrum, we use 3 categories – hue (warm, cool, neutral), chroma (a scale of bright to soft colouration) and value (a scale of light to dark colouration). This straightforward system involves the comparison of colours from every area of the spectrum against your skin, hair and eyes. By finding out where you fit into the colour spectrum, you gain knowledge about a huge range of shades that complement you best, allowing you to shop and dress effortlessly.
The Colour Commission uses the Sci/Art® Twelve-ToneTM Colour SystemTM, based on scientific and artistic principals of colour and light, developed by artist Kathryn Kalisz, a former professional Munsell colourist. The Munsell colour system is the universal system for defining and categorising colour, used by designers all over the world. Sci/Art continues to conduct research into colour and light theory and therapy.
